Paternity Leave HR Alert
Paternity Leave will now become a statutory leave for employees in all Organisations from September 1st 2016.
Paternity Leave will allow a Father to be able to take 2 weeks of leave directly after the birth or adoption of a child, or anytime over a 26 week period following the birth or the adoption of a child.
Employees must notify their employer that they intend to take paternity leave and of their intended dates no later than 4 weeks before their leave.
The statutory paternity leave will be paid at the same rate as maternity benefit, €230 per week and based on the same PRSI contribution requirements.
